Want to do something that will drive you crazy? Do a little web surfing in search of a trustworthy weight loss resource. It’s enough to make you want to stay chunky.
Sadly, the diet market is saturated with fly by night hucksters who only want to cash in on the obesity epidemic. That is not to say that there aren’t some legitimate products but they are buried in the quagmire of weight loss hype.
Recently I wrote an article in which I jokingly referred to a nonexistent diet called the habanera pepper diet. Little did I know that there actually is a hot pepper diet. Just pop a few pepper pills and the mega-spice will burn your fat away…and who knows what else? What’s more, the advertisement claims that the pepper pills are all natural, the way mother nature intended. Really?
I suppose that all diets will help you lose weight although I am not so keen on the possibility that pills and potions will take off the pounds. Surely some of them do but the ones I tried over the years were of little benefit. I actually bought a product off of TV that was made, so they claimed, out of ground up oyster shells. It was supposed to prevent fats from converting to fat. It didn’t work for me.
The absolute worst thing that I ever did for a diet was a program that required 5 shots a week. Needless to say the shots became an unpleasant issue but more troubling was what the doctor was shooting me with. In fact, it wasn’t until sometime after getting off the diet that I discovered that I was being shot with placenta.
Diet product marketers know that we will buy anything. We are a desperate bunch. We will apparently do just about anything to lose weight in the easiest and fastest way possible…regardless of how bizarre the diet or supplement may be. We are willing to look past the warnings on the label to the short term benefits.
At least I never took the surgical route to losing weight. Suck it, cut it, tuck it, staple it, strap it…or whatever the invasive procedure of the day. (OK if it’s an emergency and necessary for preserving life.)
Conclusion: Fat makes you stupid. It sure did strike me dumb for many years. Fortunately I ultimately came to my senses and did what I should have done in my youth. There is nothing better than a nutritious, healthy, methodical, SAFE diet. And…if you have a weight problem that just keeps coming back then such a diet is the only reasonable solution.
I believe that there are some qualifying questions that must be answered before committing to a diet.
1- Will this diet ultimately make me healthier?
2- Will this diet make me less susceptible to disease and sickness?
3- Will this diet improve the quality of my life?
4- Will this diet improve my mood and energy level?
5- How long can I stay on this diet without jeopardizing my health? If the answer is anything less than for the rest of your life you shouldn’t go on the diet.
6- Does this diet require pills or supplements? If you have to use supplements or pills then the food on the diet is substandard. The best diets are built on high quality fresh and nutritious foods. A good multivitamin is all that you need when the diet is right.
7- Will I lose the weight I need to lose and more importantly keep it off for the rest of my life?
8- Is this diet based on the healthiest principles known to man?
Yes, these questions can and should be answered. Once you have received satisfactory answers to all of these questions then proceed with total commitment and conviction that this is the absolute best weight loss resource. You will have finally found the last diet you will ever need.
